What's in the box:
1 charging cable type-c
1 charging case
4 interchangeable ear-tips
6 interchangeable ear-fins
1 pair of Soundpeats TrueFree 2
1 user manual
1 warranty card
After two years of use, my Soundpeats TrueFree decided to stop charging. Even after the warranty has expired, the good folks at soundpeats shopee upgraded me to the TrueFree 2 for a small fee. This is my review after two weeks of usage & testing.
Features & Design:
The Soundpeats TrueFree 2 is an overhaul in terms of design compared to the TrueFree. The earfins (powered by Freebit) are the needed upgrade to all earbuds in my opinion. It helps the earbuds stay more secured than any other earbuds I've tried. There's a physical button for controlling which I prefer over the touch-sensitive. I always seem to accidentally turn off or skip when taking them out of my ears. This time Soundpeats uses Realtek's RTL8763VHC chipset and while the sound is great, I wish they went for at least a QCC3020. The 30ft claim is somewhat true depending on interference. I've noticed very little lag for video but again not a gamer's earbuds.
They have a IPX7 (waterproof!) rating on the earbuds to protect from sweat and rain. The earfins seem to make my ears feel fatigued after a while but totally necessary for the sport. The lack of colors is my only gripe. If you are reading this Soundpeats, please listen to our cries for more color options. The case has 4 LEDs for battery indicators which is nice. I was hoping that it has the same soft matte case as the TruEngine 3 SE but nope! What you get is the typical soundpeats hard plastic case. The case is more sturdy this time around and don't keep closing like the one on the TruEngine 3 SE.
Press for Pause
Press and quick hold for skip (right side) and previous (left side)
Double press for volume up (right side) and volume down (left side)
Triple Press for voice assistance that comes with the phone
Press and long hold to power off. (Automatically turn off when placed in the case)
Sound quality:
To describe the Soundpeats TrueFree 2's sound in one word would be BASS! Holy moly madness. While clarity is not on the TruEngine 3 SE's level but good enough that I don't notice. Phone calls are decent but not as good as stem earbuds like TrueCapsule or TrueAir 2. The mic is not bad but it sounded as if I pinched my nose and speak. It is very common among earbuds with a similar style. They don't have noise-canceling but the ear-fins help them stay secured I barely hear anything outside once the audio is playing.
Battery life:
After 2 hours at 60% volume, the earbuds have around 70% left so the 4 hours claim is modest. I haven't drained the battery completely but it should easily last 6 hours plus the case provides 4 extra full charges. The case comes with a USB type-c port which is awesome. The 4 LEDs each representing 25% of the case's battery is a nice touch.
Final thoughts:
Soundpeats' TrueFree offers the best sound for your buck and the TrueFree 2 is no exception. With all the upgrades and improvements over the previous generation, it is hard not to recommend this pair of earbuds. With the right coupon and flash sales, you can easily snatch one up for less than $25! I personally like this better than TrueDots and TruEngine 3 SE because this feels most secure in my ears. I can go run, box, kick, and jump up & down without fearing that they might fall out. So if you are looking for some earbuds with BASS for sport and exercise then this pair is for you. For a better sound stage, I still recommend the TruEngine 3 SE for the dual drivers but again it is double in price!
